Our statement on the death of George Floyd

Our hearts go out to all who are grieving the loss of George Floyd and everyone harmed by racial injustice.

History offers us a chance to learn lessons from the past. By looking back, we can discover ways to better interact with our fellow human beings. We can make our community stronger by recognizing the dignity and sanctity of each person’s story now and throughout history.

At the Hopkins Historical Society we have artifacts that may contribute to telling and understanding the stories, positive and negative, of our whole community. As difficult as it may be, we feel the need to make sure these stories are not forgotten or dismissed, so that future generations can look back at what we were, and hopefully become something better as a result.

We echo the Minnesota Historical Society’s goal of becoming “more reflective, inclusive, and empathetic” as we preserve and share the history of our community.

If you have any comments or are interested in helping us tell your story and the story of your community, please contact us at info@hopkinshistory.org or fill out the form below.
